Senior Hydrologist

TGSR has partnered with a global business consulting firm that offers Innovative Sustainable Solutions with the range of skills, expertise and practical experience to tailor the right approach that delivers economic benefit, social value and reduces environmental impact, in search for an experienced Senior Hydrologist.


The Senior Hydrologist will work on projects involving river, coastal and surface water modelling for flood mapping studies, surface water management plans, flood strategies and other flood management projects, as well as Environmental Impact Assessments and water resources projects with the Local Authorities, the Environment Agency, the utilities sector and for private sector clients.



Location: The ideal candidate will be based in Reading.



Salary is up to £47,000 – dependent on experience, plus benefits



Person Specification 

  • Degree relevant to field of work
  • Membership to CIWEM/ICE and working towards Chartered status
  • Proven experience in flood estimation techniques for river, urban and coastal flooding applications
  • Hands on knowledge and use of the following software: FEH Web-Service, WinFAP FEH, ReFH1 and ReFH2
  • Solid background in flood risk management techniques which includes option appraisals
  • GIS software proficiency such as ArcGIS/MapInfo/QGIS
  • Exemplary report writing and presentation skills
  • Background in liaising with Project Managers
  • Good supervisory skills
  • Quality check and review of hydrological analysis undertaken by others



Qualifications – Preferred

  1. Background in deriving hydrological input into water resources studies and undertaking modelling such as HYSIM or Catchmod
  2. Urban drainage hydrology and modelling experience




  • Supervise and assist junior and graduate hydrologists in the team
  • Oversight and technical management of hydrological studies ensuring technical excellence, timely delivery and within budget.
  • Deliver hydrological input to support activities across a range of sectors, including flood risk management, environmental impact assessment and water resources
  • Provide support to company-wide expertise in hydrological analysis for fluvial, coastal and urban applications
  • Write and review technical reports
